THE UNIVERSITY OF MISKOLC HAS ACHIEVED A MILESTONE IN THE EDUCATION OF INDUSTRIAL DIGITALISATION

08. June 2023. 14:55

The University of Miskolc was the first to add the teaching of integrated planning of industrial investments to its training programme. The software and methodological knowledge to optimise the cost and reliability of investment projects in high-priority chemical, energy, oil and gas and pharmaceutical plants marks the beginning of a new generation of higher education.

The University of Miskolc signed an educational licence agreement with Cambridge-based AVEVA, a world-leading developer of plant design software systems, on 8 June. Under the agreement, the company will provide integrated plant design, data management, production and operations and materials management design software for the university's new and renewed industrial digitalisation courses. By training professionals with the necessary skills for the systemic use of IT applications, the University of Miskolc has taken a pioneering step towards the widespread digitalisation of domestic industrial investment projects," said the agreement signed at a press launch.

’The University of Miskolc places great emphasis on operating a network of contacts across all sectors of the labour market. It is a special occasion for us to be able to cooperate with a major international company, and it is even rarer that thanks to their offer a special software package is included in our educational portfolio, which is not yet available in any Hungarian higher education institution’ - emphasized Prof. Dr. Zita Horváth, Rector of the University of Miskolc.

’Thanks to this agreement, a software package of unprecedented value has been added to the educational portfolio of the University of Miskolc’, said Dr. Zoltán Siménfalvi, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Informatics, in his welcome speech. The versatile facility design software will create the unity of real-world operating environment and education that industrial partners need in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of a key facility. Dr. Zoltán Siménfalvi said that in recent years, the faculty has developed and launched postgraduate courses for professionals from industrial companies, in addition to the bachelor and master programmes. One of the most important elements of this is the training of industrial investment engineers, which specifically builds on the knowledge and application of this software.

’The collaboration with the University of Miskolc is a special opportunity for us as well,’ said Greg Pada, vice president of AVEVA's engineering solutions portfolio. ’Here we're not only working with the university, but also with the companies that are building the facilities design teams that will implement digital innovations in industry. The education of the University of Miskolc will produce professionals that will contribute to the efficient operation and optimal business operations of companies. It is also very important for us that this will provide us with continuous feedback on our own software, so that we can continue to improve,’ the Vice President stressed.

The use of the new industrial design software will be introduced in the future in the education of bachelor and master mechanical engineers, in addition to the specialist engineering courses that have already started in February 2023. The University of Miskolc is open to companies in shaping the content of the training, concluded Loránd Hornyák, the institution's strategic and project portfolio expert. Referring to this, he formulated the acceleration of the process of industrial digitalisation in Hungary and the implementation of a successful and sustainable operating model for companies and enterprises as a common goal.
