Hungarian student card

All students with an active status are entitled to have a Hungarian student card, which enables them to have the same advantages as Hungarian students.

Discounts with the Hungarian student card:

50% discount on public transportation within Hungary.
50% discount on membership fee in public libraries.
cheaper fares with certain taxi companies,
50-100% discount on entrance fee in particular museums, art galleries, libraries and many more.

There are 2 types of the Hungarian student card:

the temporary student ID (which is a sheet of paper valid for 60 days)
and the plastic card (which has to be validated by a sticker the University provides at the beginning of each semester) - it is not available for exchange students.

Exchange students, following their registration at DIR will automatically receive a temporary student card issued by the Directorate for Educational Affairs (in the form of a document) free of charge, which is valid for 60 days. It has to be renewed before the expiry, free of charge.

Steps to obtain a Hungarian student card

Request your student card at the "Government Office". Passport and student status certificate are needed.
A document with NEK-number (NEK code) is issued to you - the NEK code must be uploaded to the Neptun system.
Visit the Students' Centre (Building A/4, room 20) with your Hungarian mentor student, where a temporary student card is issued. When it expires, you can request a new one at the same place.
You are informed via e-mail, when your student card is ready to be taken at the Students' Centre.

Do not forget to ask for a sticker on it, which makes the student card valid for the actual semester. You will have to ask for a new sticker in each semester - and without a validation sticker, the student card is not valid.

Steps to follow in case of lost student card

The NEK code must be uploaded to the Neptun system, then the option 'lost student card' must be chosen.
Visit the Students' Centre (Building A/4, room 20) with your Hungarian mentor student, where a temporary student card is issued. When it expires, you can request a new one at the same place.
You are informed via e-mail, when your student card is ready to be taken at the Students' Centre.

International student card

International student cards can be applied for at the Students’ Office of the University of Miskolc (Building A/1, 7.)
