Institutional h-index

The 2018 Hirsch index (h-index) of the University of Miskolc is the number of citations obtained by the papers published by the employees of the University of Miskolc and its predecessors that received at least the same number of independent citations according to Web of Science by the end of year 2018. A citation is independent if there is no overlap between the list of authors in the citing and cited papers. Citations found in both the Advanced Search and the Cited Reference Search machines of the Web of Science are accepted. Only scientific publications such as monographs and journal papers are taken into account. For works published after 1980 it is required that the name of the University is mentioned as at leastone of the affiliations of at least one of the co-authors. The following predecessors of the University of Miskolc were taken into account:
1735 – 1762: Bergschule in Selmec,
1762 – 1867: Bergakademia in Selmec,
1876 – 1920: Royal Hungarian Academy of Mining and Forestry in Selmec
1920 – 1949: Faculty of Mining, Metallurgy and Forestry in Sopron,
1949 – 1990: University of Heavy Industry in Miskolc.

The h-index of the University of Miskolc calculated under the above constraints is 41. This means that the University has 41 (+2) monographs or papers published by colleagues since 1735 which received at least 41 independent citations (the additional 2 papers received exactly 41 independent citations). It also means that the University does not have yet 42 papers or monographs published by the colleagues since 1735 which have at least 42 independent citations each, if calculated under the above rules. The h-index for the year of 2019 will be published here in 2020.

.

The time dependence of the h-index calculated under the above constraints is shown in Fig.1 below. The calculation starts in the year of 1975 (this is the beginning of data from Web of Science, as visible at the University of Miskolc).

Fig.1. The time dependence of the h-index calculated under the above constraints between 1975 and 2018 (calculations start in the year of 1975, as we have data from Web of Science since 1975).

The “knowledge tree” of the university is shown in Fig.2, representing the shares of different disciplines within the h-index of the University of Miskolc (number of papers or monographs) as function of time. The bibliographies of the monographs and papers behind Fig-s 1-2 are given in Table 1.

The bibliographies of the 58 monographs and papers behind the data of Table 1-2 in sequence of their publication dates (the current or past employees of the University of Miskolc are marked in bold), their active periods in the h-index of the University of Miskolc (column 3) and the independent citations at the end of year 2018 (still active are marked in bold).
