As usual, the university opened its gates to all curious visitors on a Friday at the end of September, in the now traditional Researcher’s Night, when the professors displayed their most precious treasures. The event fell on 29 September this year.
During the evening there were spectacular chemical and physics experiments and mathematics and materials science playhouses for young and old alike. Visitors had the chance to encounter the jelly monster, create mountains and valleys in an instant, make it rain on a digital model display, carry out a crime scene investigation in a criminal case game or test their knowledge in various quizzes.
Among the new attractions, visitors could learn the connection between an electronic wooden spoon and acoustics or find out all about the Water Drinking Olympics. The Bird Protection Station in Mályi gave visitors a glimpse at birds active in the nighttime, or they could explore the library stacks from basement to attic, look into Harry Potter’s magic crystal ball, or try out an auto simulator.
Following last year’s successful introduction of Researchers Night to those who stayed home, the Miskolc University team again broadcast three hours of the main events over the internet, while professors and researchers also spoke from the on-site studio.
