The 5th International Exhibition for Automotive Industry Suppliers was held between 18-20th of October at HUNGEXPO Budapest Fair Centre. It is the only international automotive supplier expo in Central Europe, representing the entire spectrum of auto manufacturing. This year there were 215 exhibitors from 12 countries, and Miskolc was one of them, along with the University of Miskolc, the regional knowledge centre represented.
Miskolc has been chosen by several multinational companies for setting up Hungarian plants in the past decade. One important factor is the intellectual capacity of the university and the presence of its graduates. Among the companies acting as partners in its dual programmes are several major players in the automobile industry such as TAKATA, Remy Automotive Hungary, Robert Bosch and Shinwa, which also operate manufacturing units in Miskolc.
“Among our programmes is the bachelor of science in vehicle engineering, which the second group of students started in September”, the dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Informatics, Zoltán Simenfalvi, told a Miskolc Television reporter.
The dean added, “Last year and this year we accepted around 40 talented and enthusiastic students. We feel that this new programme is a milestone for the faculty, since the automotive industry has grown so much in the past few years that it is clearly worthwhile getting involved in training and education as well as R&D in this field.”
University representatives arrived at the expo accompanied by the Formula Racing Miskolc student team and their car.
As the team leader, Miron Sándor, explains, “The car we’ve brought to this year’s Automotive Hungary expo is a totally new version. For instance the electronic system, with its highly developed control panel electronics and telemetry. The frame has been remodelled, which changed the positions of the peripherals and the centre of balance. The car also got an aerodynamic package that will save us precious seconds. The 238 kg, 85 horsepower car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/second in just 3.5 seconds.
“In addition to the support of the university, many of the local companies sponsor the team, since they know that this sort of initiative contributes well-prepared, useful engineers to the labour market”, he added.
