An international conference entitled “Criminal law protection of the financial interests of the EU – basic principles and issues” was held on campus March 23rd, sponsored by the Faculty of Law, the  Research Centre for European and International Criminal Law and the Association of Hungarian Lawyers for the European Criminal Law.

After the opening, Prof. Péter Polt, Chief Prosecutor of Hungary, delivered a presentation in one of the sections dealing with Hungarian regulations protecting the financial interests of the EU and measures against budgetary fraud in the practices of the prosecution service.

The aim of the conference was to focus on the basic issues and best practices of EU member states in defending EU financial interests in the criminal law and to provide a space for in-depth discussion from a practical point of view. While the narrower focus was on fraud against the EU, there were presentations on a variety of other topics as well, including cybercrime and issues relating to compliance.
