Hungarians to land on Mars on Saturday

02. May 2018. 14:40

The Hungarian Applied Engineering Competition named “Hungarians on Mars”, in its 13th year, will be held on the ME campus this time. Thirty-five teams applied to join the event, which will be held in the University Stadium. The main challenge facing this year’s competitors will be time, since they have been given just 24 hours to build a robot that can make its way through the course.

The parts and materials for constructing the robots were supplied to the first 20 teams to apply by the University of Miskolc. However, the parts package does not contain 100% of the elements needed to build the robot. Once they are constructed, the robots will compete against each other in a round robin contest on the obstacle course, with points being given for their performance to judge the final winners.

The teams can pick up the parts packet and begin work int he stadium on Friday, 4 May at 10:00 a.m. The official start is on the next day, beginning with a short opening, and is scheduled to last until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Teams from secondary schools or teams made up of current and former university student may apply. High-placing teams win cash prizes gathered through donations to the prize fund. Currently the pot stands at HUF 380,000, but may grow by the time of the awards ceremony.
