On 11 October the Confucius Institute celebrated its 5th anniversary with a whole-day event. The series of events began with a festive plenary session in the University's ceremony hall, where festive greetings were presented with performances by students and teachers of the institute.
The institute was congratulated by several prominent persons on its anniversary, attended by the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China and several representatives of the Hungarian Government and the Parliament, as well as the mayor of Miskolc. After the plenary session, the participants visited the institute and held a forum in the afternoon with professional consultations.
The institute was established In autumn 2013nwith the support of the HANBAN (Global Center of Confucius Institutes), Beijing Chemical University (BUCT) and the Wanhua-BorsodChem Zrt. Group with the aims to promote Chinese-Hungarian relations and to familiarise university students with the Chinese language and culture. Students at the University of Miskolc can study the Chinese language for free, learn the writing system, and participate in a number of cultural programs – with this knowledge they have better chances in the labour market. The institute has become an integral part of the life of the university in the past five years, but it also actively participates in the education of primary and secondary school pupils who are interested in Chinese, as well as in the training of the region's employees.
