INTERNATIONAL ARCHITECTURAL AWARD FOR UM’S NEW INNOVATION CENTRE

16. June 2021.

Part of the industrial workshop hall (Building C2) constructed in the 1960s was redesigned by the Budapest-based architectural firm MG Építész to house the Advanced Materials and Intelligent Technologies Higher Education and Industrial Cooperation Centre and a Start-up Centre.

The project won a Big See Award for architecture. These are regional awards to systematically explore and promote the creative and business potential of Southeast Europe.

Renovation works included refurbishment of the existing spaces and also the creation of new ones. One of the most important goals was to create a new main entrance, together with a foyer and reception, and the creation of the new Startup Centre. Hexagonal forms were used in the interior design, symbolising ties to material science. A contemporary pedestrian bridge was also rebuilt between the industrial hall and the neighbouring building.
