Emeritus professor Lóránt Kabdebó, who led the Faculty of Arts from its establishment, has died aged 85.
An eminent scholar in literary history, he taught at several institutions and extensively studied the life and works of Lőrinc Szabó, the best-known poet of Miskolc.
At the University of Miskolc he led the Institute of Arts from 1993 and its transition to the Faculty of Arts (where he was the dean from 1997-2006), becoming an emeritus professor on his retirement.
He remained an active scholar up until his death.
Prof. Kabdebó was the recipient of prestigious awards and honours, including the Toldy Ferenc Award (2007), József Attila Award (2012) and the Middle Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit (2021), in addition to being named an Honorary Citizen of Miskolc.
