The Confucius Institute at the University of Miskolc in association with Beijing University of Chemical Technology and Chinese Cultural Centre in Budapest organized an exclusive exhibition on the ground floor of Building A/4.
Chinese traditional folk art forms (calligraphy, paintings, and prints) related to the Chinese New Year period are on exhibit. All of these pieces deliver the joyful atmosphere of the holiday and have a decorative function. You are welcome to visit the show until the end of April.
The Taohuawu New Year pictures were once called Gusu woodcuts.. The New Year pictures use wood-based printing techniques from ancient China, from the Song Dynasty (960-1279). Since 2006, the Taohuawu New Years picture woodcuts, due to their unique artistic, aesthetic value and historical, traditional significance, have been listed as a national, intangible cultural heritage. The subjects of the pictures are symbolic, expressing happiness and joy, showing scenes from regular lives, stories, flowers, birds, and other symbols that keep evil forces away.
The exhibition’s opening ceremony was held on 10th March. The participants and representatives were greeted by the Vice-Rector, Dr. Roland Szilágyi, the Rector Emeritus, Prof. András Torma and Prof. Jie Liu, the Head of the Confucius Institute. Renáta Fridrik Várhegyi, the director of the Zrínyi Ilona Secondary School, and managers of local Chinese companies (László Bodnár of Ten Pao, and Lajos Simon of Chervon Auto) attended the ceremony.
