With a training structure across eight faculties, twelve fields of study and two hundred programmes leading to degrees, the institution can meet the needs of a broad and diverse regional labour market. In the spring semester, more than a thousand students graduated from the leading knowledge centre in north-eastern Hungary.
A total of 1,074 students received their degrees at the University of Miskolc's graduation ceremony at the end of June 2022. The Faculty of Law and Political Sciences had 263 graduating students, the Faculty of Music 19, the Faculty of Arts, 174, the Faculty of Health Sciences 142, the Faculty of Economics 141, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Informatics 239, the Faculty of Materials Engineering 27 and the Faculty of Earth Science and Engineering 69. Of the graduates, 87 are international students who have studied at six faculties of the University.
"We have achieved many achievements in the last few years. The University of Miskolc is one of the eleven Hungarian universities that is at the top of the two most prestigious international rankings. Our students have achieved good results in national and international competitions, and our teachers and researchers have been awarded prestigious awards. The Diploma Career Tracking System run by the Education Office proves that graduates from our school are valued by the labour market, as they can find a job quickly. The University of Miskolc is the leading knowledge centre of North-East Hungary, a centre of intellectual outreach", said Prof. Zita Horváth, Rector of the University of Miskolc, at the graduation ceremony.
"We were preparing for a peaceful and constructive century, which we Hungarians especially needed. But the world turned out differently. And just when we thought that we would get through the 21st century with an epidemic that we had survived, a bloody war arrived just across the border, and with it high inflation and dramatic shortages of raw materials and energy. On top of this, Hungary has to fight ongoing legal theoretic debates on EU law. So our energy specialists, our engineers and our lawyers have to stand their ground at the same time. From today, you will also be involved in the process of nation-building, and at very important points", said Judit Varga, President of the Board of Trustees of the Universitas Miskolcinensis Foundation, the foundation that supports the University of Miskolc, in her welcome speech.
"To graduate from the University of Miskolc is an uplifting and honouring feeling, and I congratulate you from the bottom of my heart. The graduating students have received diplomas that are very much needed in Hungary and I wish that the knowledge they have acquired will be used for the development of our country", said Dr. Zsófia Koncz, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Technology and Industry and Member of Parliament.
"Within the walls of the University of Miskolc, students have not only received the wealth of information that the world's knowledge market requires today, but they have also acquired the ability to think responsibly, which we need to succeed in today's accelerated, competitive world. This graduation is not only the result of a huge amount of work over the past years, but also the beginning of a new chapter. The Hungarian government is committed to continuously raising the quality of university education", said Dr. Tünde Szabó, Government Commissioner responsible for the development of the Northeast Hungary Economic Development Zone.
