ADMISSIONS FIGURES AND NEW PROGRAMMES

The portfolio of courses founded and launched at the University of Miskolc based on the needs of companies is developing dynamically. The popularity of business studies courses continues to be high, and the number of admissions to the faculties of engineering and health sciences has increased.Prof. Zita Horváth, Rector of the University of Miskolc, emphasised that there is no faculty at the University of Miskolc that is not in the top ten most popular courses. The institution's ambition is to contribute to the sustainable development of the Northeastern Hungary region.

 

 

In 2022, 2,048 applicants were admitted to the University of Miskolc, 1,677 with Hungarian state scholarships and 371 fee-paying students. The Faculty of Economics admitted the most students (502), the Faculty of Law admitted 412 and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Informatics accepted 383 applicants.

 

The most popular field of study at the University of Miskolc is Economics. In addition to the existing programmes, the Faculty of Economics is launching two new courses, Human Resource Counselling and Business Economics. In the additional admissions procedure (application deadline 5 August), the faculty is launching two new programmes – sports management and data analysis in economics – both of which are in high demand on the labour market.

 

 

The Faculty of Earth Sciences and Engineering will be launching all of its MSc courses taught in English in September at. The number of students enrolled in the Environmental Engineering MSc has doubled, and the MSc in Engineering Geography will be relaunched on a correspondence basis. Unique programmes such as Oil and Gas Engineering, Mining and Geotechnical Engineering, Resource Preparation Engineering and Water and Resources Engineering are being launched.

 

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Informatics has maintained its strong position in higher education in the field of engineering and information technology. Compared to last year, 14% more students have enrolled in bachelor's programmes in engineering this year. The popularity of correspondence courses in the master’s courses continues, demonstrating that the master's courses offer a promising career path for those with a bachelor's degree, which is in line with the needs of companies.

 

This year, 28% more students were admitted to the Faculty of Materials Engineering than last year. With dynamic laboratories and a curriculum tailored to industry needs, the Faculty of Materials Engineering offers students the opportunity to join industrial and international projects during their university years. Students admitted to full-time undergraduate courses will receive a laptop with training software.

 

There has been a 20% increase in the number of students admitted to the Faculty of Health Sciences. The most popular full-time bachelor's degree course this year is again in physiotherapy, but there has also been strong interest in courses in nursing, radiography, certified nursing and health tourism management. The training of nurses and nursing auxiliaries will be launched in the framework of off-campus training in Sátoraljaújhely. The MSc in professional nursing will be launched for the first time this year.

 

 

Just like last year, the five-year law course was the most popular among applicants to the Faculty of Law, so only the top 100 students were admitted to the state-funded law course.

The number of students enrolled in the full-time Bachelor's degree course in Special Needs Education at the Faculty of Arts also increased this year, and the number of students interested in sociology also rose. English Studies was again the most popular humanities programme at the University of Miskolc in 2022.
