Unforgettable new experiences at the freshmen’s camp

The freshmen’s camp is held at the University of Miskolc at the end of August every year. For four days hundreds of freshmen took over the university to get to know the campus, their future classmates, upper-year students and UM’s traditions.

This year more than 550 freshmen enjoyed their time on the campus of Miskolc before returning for this year's official opening ceremony on 5th September. There were a number of traditional programme elements, such as the official opening, sports day, song lessons, star tour or a visit to the school mine, and this time the organisers were also prepared with a surprise flash mob for the participants.

"We have accepted more than 2,000 students this year, are expecting about 300 more students in the late admissions process, and we are starting the academic year with almost 300 international first-year students," said Dr Roland Szilágyi, Vice-Rector for Education while welcoming more than 550 freshmen at the 2022 freshmen’s camp.

"I'm envious because young people can learn here, not only in Hungary but also in one of the most beautiful campuses in Europe. I'm also envious because they can acquire competitive skills that will give them a unique career opportunity. And I am also a little envious because they will be part of the 300-year-old tradition of Selmec," said Pál Veres, Mayor of Miskolc and member of the Board of Trustees of the Universitas Miskolcinensis Foundation, to the first-year freshmen camp participants. The mayor noted that planning is underway and that the foundation plans to bring unprecedented developments to the university in the coming years, thanks to the support of the Hungarian Government and the European Union.
