The LIFE-CLIMCOOP project, which is seeking solutions to optimise the climate impact of urban and business areas that are vulnerable to climate change, is organising an extraordinary climate adaptation meeting on 22 September in Kazincbarcika. The LIFE-CLIMCOOP project brings together cities and local companies to work on climate adaptation, with the University of Miskolc as the coordinating beneficiary.
The event will offer practical examples of adaptation to extreme weather events and will introduce participants to the "sponge city" concept, which uses the landscape as a nature-based solution to retain environmental water. The speaker will be Sándor Bardóczi, Chief Architect (Budapest Municipality).
Balázs Stumpf-Biró, futurologist and Zsolt Szalóczy, physicist, will share their thoughts on individual adaptation pathways and the prospects of scarce resources, while in the international programme, Marta Reguilon, technical manager of the LIFE CITYADAP3 programme in Murcia, will give a video presentation on the climate adaptation experiences of Southern Spain.
In addition to the professional speakers, Gergely Litkai, a comedian invited to the event, will also provide a different perspective on climate change issues.
The presentations, which can also be followed online, will be followed by sessions on the situation of local authorities, corporate adaptation, support for community building and NGOs working on climate change.
The LIFE-CLIMCOOP programme aims to promote cooperation between businesses and cities and to facilitate joint adaptation, for which the conference will provide the knowledge and tools. Municipalities, companies and projects dealing with the impacts of climate change are therefore invited to attend the meeting.
Participation in the Kazincbarcika meeting is free of charge. Most events will be held in Hungarian. See https://life-climcoop.hu/esemenyek/ for the programme and to register.
