The management of UM and the MEAFC sports club congratulated the athletes on their outstanding results at the 2022 European University Games (EUG).
UM achieved the third best result among the Hungarian universities at the 2022 EUG, and after the international competition with more than 400 European universities, the institution was ranked 35th in the 2022 medal table. UM students won one gold, two silver and two bronze medals at the major sporting event in Poland. In 2024, UM and UD will host EUG.
Prof. Zita Horváth, Rector of UM, presented commemorative plaques to the athletes and their coaches who participated in the event, and certificates to the volunteers who contributed to the event. The head of a leading higher education institution in the North-Eastern region thanked the athletes for their perseverance in preparing for the competition, as well as the coaches and organisers.
Péter Juhász, Secretary General of the Hungarian University and College Sports Association, congratulated the athletes on their achievements, while also anticipating the importance of the 2024 event. He said that more than 4000 athletes will compete in 20 sports in Hungary at EUG 2024, which means that UM is preparing for the largest multisport event in the history of Hungary in two years' time. He added that a lot of improvements are being made and will continue to be made in the future to ensure that the sport event in 2024 will be the best and most high-quality event of all time.
