“The University of Miskolc is the most important intellectual base of the Northern-Hungarian region, providing the region with a new generation of professionals. The job fair on the campus is a meeting of knowledge and innovation, the value of which is demonstrated by the ever-changing labour market." These words were said at the opening ceremony of the job fair, held in the university's assembly hall. The event was attended by 34 national and international companies from the region and across the country.

North Hungary held its traditional job fair at UM in a symbolic location on 20 September. Companies and businesses from different sectors of the economy not only presented concrete job opportunities, but also assessed the needs of prospective employees and presented the values of employers. This dual role of the event was highlighted by Zoltán Alakszai, the governor of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County, who stressed that the region's university also prepares its students to be open and to recognise opportunities for development, giving them the knowledge, they will need to adapt to the needs of a changing world. Gergely Szabó, Vice President of the Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Assembly, said that in addition to a degree, qualifications and knowledge, UM provides a wide range of competences to enable its students to succeed in life and in the labour market.

In his welcoming speech, Tamás Bihall, President of the Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Chamber of Commerce and Industry, referred to the crisis situations caused by the COVID-19 epidemic and the Russian-Ukrainian war, and said that companies, employees and families must be prepared for changes affecting both economic and social conditions. However, he said that he believes that the knowledge and innovative spirit acquired will strengthen the adaptability of employers and employees alike.

Zoltán Ádám, Head of the Directorate for Education and Quality Assurance, explained that UM serves the labour market of the region with its wide-ranging training portfolio. Opening the exhibition, he added that the most important goal of the institution is to adapt the educational structure to emerging needs, thus effectively serving the matching of employers and employees.
