The University of Miskolc was the only Hungarian participant at the XXIV International Conference on Material Handling, Constructions and Logistics in Belgrade, which aims to promote collaborative research between academic research institutions and technology solution providers.

This year's conference, held in Serbia from 21-23 September, brought together 18 leading universities from 10 countries. The only Hungarian among them was Prof. Béla Illés, of UM’s Institute of Logistics, who gave a joint lecture with Dr. László Vida, Head of Development of SBS Kft. on a new type of rail-road intermodal container transport model and the container handling procedure that serves it. Following the presentation, they received a number of questions, an enquiry from China and a request from the UK to write a chapter for a book on port logistics.

Selected presenters from the Belgrade meetingin this theme have also been invited to a European conference to be held in December: they include universities in Hong Kong, Duisburg, and Dortmund, and UM is honoured to be included. This further strengthens the links previously established by the Institute of Logistics, which this year again enabled several lecturers to travel to German and Austrian universities for teaching/research purposes.
