A conference on the theme of recreation was held at the UM’s Faculty of Health Sciences. Speakers from twelve universities and professional organisations in the field participated in the conference.
Dr. Emőke Kiss-Tóth, dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, spoke about the pioneering role it has playec in raising awareness of the importance of health professional activities, including prevention and recreation, for society, public health and the labour market. She pointed out that when expanding research areas and developing study programmes, they have tried not only to follow but also to anticipate societal expectations. Among other things, one aim was to give recreation its rightful place in the world of science. They have not abandoned the faculty's plan to launch a doctoral school in the field, based on a related master's degree, which is a social need in institutional, health and spa tourism, among others, she said.
Máriusz Révész, State Secretary for Active Hungary, referring to the developments in leisure sports activities implemented over the past decade with government and EU funding, said that everyone benefits from creating the conditions for regular exercise: not just the individual, who can expect to live longer, but also the national economy and regional service providers, who can contribute to the retention of local communities through their employment and income potential. “The experience of university institutes working in the field of health promotion will be counted on in the development of the strategy for an active and health-conscious lifestyle,” he emphasised.
