UM offers many opportunities to improve physical fitness alongside mental training. From Monday to Thursday there are free sports afternoons, where students can choose from pilates, running club, fanatic jump or basketball.
A few weeks ago, Máriusz Révész, Minister of State of the Prime Minister's Office responsible for Active Hungary stressed that the experience of university institutes working on health promotion is being relied on to develop a strategy for an active and health-conscious lifestyle. "People most often stop exercising in their twenties, and then at the age of 30 or 35 they realise that they have to start moving or they will be in big trouble. They need to be given the opportunity," he said at a recent conference on recreation at the Faculty of Health Sciences,
At UM, opportunities to maintain both mental and physical fitness are available.
"The main goal of the sports office is to get as many students, teachers and staff as possible moving. In this spirit, we organise programmes such as the Sports Day, where 3,000-4,000 people do sports at the same time, but our real aim is to get them into the habit of regular exercise. That's why we have created the sports afternoons, where students can choose from different forms of exercise from Monday to Thursday, such as pilates, running club, fanatic jump or basketball," said Péter Boda, Director of the Sports Centre. He added that they could also use these events to gain credits in physical education.
