Openness to Asian culture can be a 'win-win' position for attracting Chinese investment, and universities; UM can also play an important role in this.
Dr. Levente Horváth, Director of the Eurasia Centre, spoke about the prospects for a new economic world order at the third Innovation Day at UM. The meeting focused on Chinese investors in the Northern Hungary region and on research cooperation between the university and companies.
"The policy of opening up to the East is diversification in international relations. This is a very good ambition, as it is not only possible to cooperate with one side, but it is really important that Hungary has the right cooperation in all directions," said Dr. Horváth.
According to the expert, the time has now come for the interconnection between Asia and Europe to come to fruition, for the Eurasian supercontinent to be created. We are living through the emergence of the "Eurasia era", and Hungary's geographical location means that it can play a bridgehead role in this, which could be important in the emergence of a new world order.
"Hungary has the most stable policy in this region. The Chinese are thinking in the long term, and it is much more beneficial for them to deal with a stable political leadership, because then they don't have to reacquaint themselves with new governments every four years, start negotiations again or review the previous ones. It is also important that Hungary is part of the European Union and the Schengen area, so if Chinese factories are built here, they will be EU products that will be exported to markets around the world," he said.
