SPRING FUNDRAISING TO FIGHT HUNGER

Under the slogan "Hunger knows no season!", a food drive has been launched at UM in cooperation with Universities Fighting World Hunger and the Hungarian Red Cross. Donations are welcome between 19-21 April.

For a decade, UM has had a group of students and faculty who were the first Hungarian universities to join the Universities Fighting World Hunger (UFWH) international movement, which started in the United States, said Dennis Engel, the leader of the Miskolc group and a lecturer at the University, at the launch of this spring campaign. Helping those in need is always a topical issue, because "Hunger knows no season," he said, quoting the slogan that gives the campaign its title.

"Collecting food is the easiest way to have some immediate impact on a crisis," said Kamilla Laták, county coordinator of the Hungarian Red Cross. "We always come to the university with great enthusiasm and joy because, in our experience, the young generation is very receptive to social problems. They are happy to donate food to this campaign to help, even with the smallest donation. We expect no more from them this time," she added.

Donations of non-perishable food items to help the needy can be dropped off at the main entrance of the university, at the Rácsos Snack Bar and at the Gallery entrance from April 19-21, from 9 am to 2 pm. Cash donations are also accepted.
