The graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Information Technology and the Béla Bartók Faculty of Music took place on the morning of 29 June 2023.
In the second spring semester of the 2022/2023 academic year, 250 students graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Information Technology (MCEI) and 30 students from the Béla Bartók Music Faculty (BBZK). The diplomas were awarded by the Rector Prof. Dr. Zita Horváth, Prof. Dr. Zoltán Siménfalvi, Dean of the GÉIK and Dr. Sándor Papp, Dean of the BBZK at a festive Senate meeting.
Károly Hazuga, Managing Director of Downstream MOL, was the first to greet the new graduates, who recalled with nostalgia the time when he graduated as an economist from the University of Miskolc in 2008. He recalled the time when the university and MOL Petrochemicals launched a dual training programme with the undisguised aim of jointly training engineers with practical knowledge of cutting-edge technology. The Department of Chemical Engineering has been established and the training programme provides practical knowledge in a corporate environment.
’We are proud that the University of Miskolc is the source of the largest number of recent graduates at MOL Petrochemicals,’ said Károly Hazuga, who praised the teachers for their commitment to impart knowledge, inspire and guide students during their university years, laying a solid foundation for their future success.
’The number and knowledge of the students who choose our courses and graduate from us in large numbers is a testament to the effectiveness of our investment. It demonstrates the economic and social demand for our graduates and the value of the diplomas awarded,’ said Prof. Dr. Zoltán Siménfalvi, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Informatics, welcoming the graduates. He recalled that this year, for the first time, students of the Béla Bartók Faculty of Music, the eighth faculty of the university, will receive their diplomas from the Master of Performing Arts.
Speaking about the students graduating from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Informatics, he said that they should be proud of having graduated from a faculty with a multidisciplinary and integrative profile, unique in Hungarian higher education.
The graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Materials and Chemical Engineering and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences took place on the afternoon of 29 June 2023.
In the second spring semester of the 2022/2023 academic year, 27 students of the Faculty of Materials and Chemical Engineering successfully passed their final exams, while 345 students of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences graduated. The diplomas were awarded by Prof. Dr. Zita Horváth, Rector, Prof. Dr. Árpád Bence Palotás, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, and Dr. Mária Illésné Dr. Kovács, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
’The Alma Mater is not only a place where professional careers are established, but also a cradle of social and personal relationships, where one can gain knowledge and contacts that will accompany one throughout one's life.’ These were the words of Lászlóné Radomszki, Deputy State Secretary for Social Inclusion at the Ministry of the Interior, when she welcomed the new graduates.
In her ceremonial speech, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr. Mária Illésné Dr. Kovács said that the main task of the years spent at the University of Miskolc was to provide students with all the knowledge they needed to successfully shape their future and find their place in the knowledge-based society of our time.
’There is no such thing as lifelong knowledge, only lifelong learning and the continuous renewal of professional skills. Science and technology are advancing rapidly and artificial intelligence is now playing an increasingly important role in all aspects of life. But as qualified professionals, you cannot afford the luxury of not learning,’ said the Dean.
The graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences and Engineering took place on 30 June 2023.
In the second spring semester of the academic year 2022/2023, 200 students graduated from the Faculty of Economics and 69 students from the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences and Engineering. The diplomas were awarded by Prof. Dr. Péter Szűcs, Deputy Rector General, Prof. Dr. Mariann Veresné Veres, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Prof. Dr. Gábor Mucsi, Dean of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences and Engineering at a festive Senate meeting.
Zsombor Marton, Managing Director of MOL Research and Production, who himself graduated from the University of Miskolc, was the first to welcome the new graduates. Referring to this, he said that for him, the University of Miskolc gave him the foundations and human relationships on which he can still build in his work. ’What the Selmec Academy, the University of Miskolc and MOL have in common is that they have always been able to renew themselves, despite their decades-long or centuries-old traditions. Our task is to adapt to the challenges that life throws at us. The essence of renewal is to see the opportunity in every situation,’ he said.
In closing, Prof. Mariann Veresné Somosi, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, said she believes that the university has helped students to use their own judgement, their own skills, to learn to see the world independently, through their own eyes, and to find in it what is important and authentic in their profession and in their own lives.
The graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Health took place on 4 July 2023.
In the second spring semester of the academic year 2022/2023, 302 students graduated from the Faculty of Law and 201 students from the Faculty of Health Sciences. The diplomas were awarded by Prof. Dr. Zita Horváth, Rector, Prof. Dr. Csilla Csák, Dean of the Faculty of Law and Dr. Emőke Kiss-Tóth, Dean of the Faculty of Health.
Balázs Hankó, Minister of State for Higher Education, Innovation, Vocational Education and Training and Adult Education of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation was speaking about the future of higher education in Hungary, he said that they would like to see a Hungarian university ranked among the world's top 100 universities by 2030.
’The university students who are graduating now have had a difficult path to graduation. They had to fight against the Covid incident and the threat of war, but they have covered the distance and finally reached the finish line, a testimony to the fact that the university trains and prepares responsible professionals for the challenges of the turbulent world around us,’ said Dr. Emőke Kiss-Tóth, Dean of the Faculty of Health.
