THE EUROPEAN UNIVERSITIES' BADMINTON AND WATER POLO CHAMPIONSHIPS IN MISKOLC ENDED WITH MEDAL MATCHES

Good atmosphere, community experience, individual and team sporting successes, high quality organisation - this is how to sum up the 2023 European Universities Badminton and Water Polo Championships in Miskolc, which ended on the sixth day of the competition with the men's and women's individual, men's and women's doubles and mixed doubles finals in the DVTK Arena, and the water polo bronze medal match and final in the Ellipsum Experience and Beach Baths in Miskolc.


The final day of the European University Badminton and Water Polo Championships in Miskolc on Wednesday 19 July was all about the medal battles. In badminton, the singles and doubles finals produced a sweeping victory in Nottingham. In the final two water polo derbies, which featured four Hungarian participants, the bronze medal went to the University of Debrecen team and the gold to the Budapest University of Economics and Business.

A celebration of university sport

- The quality of the event was like a European adult championship, which speaks for itself, I can only congratulate the organisers! - Radomir Jovovic, Technical Delegate of the European University Sports Association (EUSA), said before the award ceremony on Wednesday.
At the award ceremony, Dr. Zoltán Alakszai, the Chief Bishop of the Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Government Office, Zoltán Rakaczki, member of the EUSA Executive Committee, Radomir Jovovic, Technical Delegate of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) and Péter Kapitány, Secretary General of the Hungarian Badminton Federation, presented the medals to the athletes.

Good basis for next year

- The atmosphere was very good throughout the tournament, all the participating teams had a good time, that's the most important thing - Miklós Gór-Nagy, Head of Sports of the Hungarian Water Polo Federation, said after the announcement of the water polo results. - I was part of the organising committee and we tried to ensure good conditions for the participants.  I think overall this tournament is a very good basis for next year's European University Games. The Hungarian home final was a relatively smooth match, where Budapest Business School deserved to win as expected, especially because they performed well throughout the tournament.

At the results ceremony, the medals and trophies were presented to the teams and players by Pál Veres, Mayor of Miskolc, Zoltán Rakaczki, member of the EUSA Executive Committee, Miklós Gór-Nagy, Head of Sports of the Hungarian Water Polo Association and György Kovács, Deputy Secretary General of the Hungarian University and College Sports Association.
