The University of Miskolc can contribute to further strengthening the mutually beneficial economic and trade cooperation between Hungary and the People's Republic of China by providing engineering and professional training, said Gong Tao, the Far East Ambassador to Hungary, during his visit to the University of Miskolc.

A delegation from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Budapest visited the University of Miskolc on 4 October. Prior to the meeting with the leaders of the university, they were introduced to the activities of the Confucius Institute, which has been operating at the university for ten years, and to mark its anniversary, a tree was planted in front of the main building. The delegation was accompanied by the Minister Counsellor for Economic and Commercial Affairs and the Counsellor for Educational Affairs of the Embassy, who informed them about the international position of the University of Miskolc, its research and educational activities, and discussed the possibilities and areas for further development of cooperation.

"Bilateral relations between China and Hungary are very good, which also provides an opportunity for cooperation in higher education," said Gong Tao, China's Ambassador to Budapest, after the meeting. "I hope the Chinese government will provide more assistance to the Confucius Institute of the University of Miskolc, which will strengthen cross-cultural relations. China and Hungary both attach importance to innovation and higher education, and we will continue to help promote this. Currently, Chinese enterprises in Hungary are mainly active in the chemical and renewable energy sectors. These Chinese companies are in great need of engineers and a skilled workforce. I hope that we will continue to mutually support the cooperation between Chinese companies and the University of Miskolc, so that we can jointly promote economic and trade relations between the two countries," said the Ambassador.

The Rector of the University of Miskolc, Prof. Dr. Zita Horváth, emphasized at the meeting that the needs of the region's chemical companies, such as the Chinese WanHua, which owns BorsodChem, have laid the foundation for the university's chemical engineering education and research and development cooperation.

"Cooperation in education and research with Chinese companies will also contribute to expanding our links with Asian universities, bringing more Chinese students to Miskolc and more Hungarian students to study in China," said the rector.
