A conference entitled "Our Regional Raw Material Resources" was held at the Miskolc headquarters of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences on 6 October. The exploration of domestic raw material resources is one area where UM’s Faculty of Earth Science and Engineering hopes to contribute.

On Researchers' Night, UM's Knowledge Warehouse was opened. A team of lecturers, PhD students, students and volunteers worked to give visitors a first-hand experience of the exciting and spectacular world of science and research. The event, with more than 100 activities, attracted thousands of visitors to campus on the last day of September.

The University of Miskolc will not set a minimum score for the 2023 and 2024 admission procedures. The advanced-level school leaving examination will remain a compulsory requirement for Hungarian applicants to the undergraduate programmes in Law, English and German Studies, and teacher training programmes for English and German teaching. Standardised institutional point categories will be introduced at the university level, and specific institutional point categories will be established for individual faculties.

UM has won nearly HUF 3.5 billion in the Széchenyi Plan Plus grant programme for the development of digital education methodology, the modernisation of digital infrastructure supporting practical education, and the building of student and teacher skills related to the use of information technology. The aim of the project "DigitALL - Digital Transformation of Education at the University of Miskolc" is to create a complex digital ecosystem that, in addition to providing innovative support for educational activities, will also contribute to aligning students' practical skills more closely with labour market requirements.

In cooperation with the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest, the University of Miskolc has launched a unique training course for animal protection lawyers. The postgraduate course at the Faculty of Law gives students an insight into animal protection law and related disciplines. Students will also learn about the veterinary, psychological, communication, economic, sociological and anthropological aspects of the field.

Since 2000, the World Heart Federation has organised World Heart Day to draw attention to the high prevalence of cardiovascular disease and the ways in which it can be prevented in everyday life. UM has joined this initiative.

At the prestigious FISU World Cup of University Combat Sports in Samsun, Turkey, where 17 national boxers will compete, we can cheer for Soma Mester, a student of the Faculty of Economics at UM. Soma, who is competing in the 71 kg weight category, took on Cem Kaya from Turkey on Monday, 26 September.

"It pays to learn a language! Regardless of age, both young and old can benefit from language skills, whether in their travels, at work or in their globalised daily lives. The teachers at the Language Teaching Centre have many years of language teaching experience to support the foreign language experiences and future careers of students at the University of Miskolc.
