SWEDISH AMBASSADOR VISITS CAMPUS

Dag Hartelius, the Ambassador of Sweden, first met with the mayor of Miskolc and then with UM rector Prof. Zita Horváth and others. The possibility of expanding cooperation with Swedish educational and research institutions was discussed.
DR. ÁKOS KRIZA, TRUSTEE OF UM, HAS PASSED AWAY

We sadly report the death of Dr Ákos Kriza, physician and economist, one of the five-member Board of Trustees of the Universitas Miskolcinensis Foundation, and the former mayor of Miskolc, on 18 January at age 56. May he rest in peace.
FACULTY OF EARTH SCIENCES GAINS NEW PARTNER

An agreement was signed with the Békéscsaba Center of Vocational Training that will promote exchange between the secondary-level institution and UM, including joint field trips, visiting lab classes and lectures, participating in research projects, promoting earth science studies in areas such as oil and gas engineering, renewable energy, global information systems, water management and environmental protection.
ADAPTING TO CLIMATE CHANGE

UM is preparing to take on a major role in helping institutions and firms in northeast Hungary to become more aware of and adapt to the impacts of climate change by. We have signed a cooperation agreement with CASSee Zrt., a company developing the Cassandra Program for complex climate adaptation; together we are designing a course to train climate adaptation experts and working on an assessment and rewards system. UM is also striving to perform well on the Green Metric Ranking of World Universities.
STRONGER TIES WITH LOCAL RADIO STATION

Thanks to the agreement signed between UM and the Csillagpont Radio Foundation, students now have the opportunity to become interns there. A group made up of students, teachers, and radio station staff will be formed to report on university news and events in a 30-40 minute weekly programme.
UM PROFESSOR AGAIN NAMED AS AFCA VICE CHAIRMAN

Prof. Levente Kovács, Head of the Department of International Finance in the Faculty of Economics, has been named Vice Chairman of the Asian Financial Cooperation Association (AFCA), an influential global exchange and cooperation platform for Asian financial institutions, for a second term. He is also Secretary General of the Hungarian Banking Association, an Executive Committee member of the European Banking Federation, and a Board of Directors member of the European Money Market Institute.
